Services for Persons with Disabilities
The New York Public Library complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and provides reasonable accommodations upon request for physical access, communications or other needs to ensure services, activities and programs are available to people with disabilities. Most of the 90 library sites are accessible to people using wheelchairs; full accessibility is indicated on the Locations and Hours page and each library's home page. When a site is partially-accessible the specifics are detailed on that library's home page.
Library sites have assistive technology for those with hearing and/or vision loss. See Assistive Technologies for specific information about what is available at various locations. People with a disability may indicate this when they apply for a library card, and they will receive a discount on any fines.
For more information about any of these services, please call the Office of Teaching & Learning, Literacy and Outreach at 212-340-0951 or 212-340-0918, or e-mail bcahalan@nypl.org.
